Why Boundaries Matter
Welcome to our Ninth Newsletter!
“Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves, even when we risk disappointing others.” — Brené Brown
In both personal and professional lives, boundaries create clarity. They teach others how to treat us and teach us how to stay committed to our truths.
Why Boundaries Matter
Setting boundaries is not about shutting people out; it's about protecting your energy and values so that you can show up authentically in every area of your life. Boundaries are invisible lines that define what we are comfortable with and what we are not. Without them, we risk burnout, resentment, and fractured relationships.
Here's Why Boundaries Matter:
-
They preserve your well-being.
Boundaries help you manage stress and prevent burnout, making space for better self-care. -
They clarify relationships.
When you communicate your limits, you invite honest and respectful connections — at work, at home, and in your community. -
They foster growth.
Boundaries allow you to focus upon your own goals and values, rather than getting swept up in the needs or drama of others. -
They build resilience.
By honoring your boundaries, you strengthen your ability to navigate change and uncertainty with confidence and resilience.
How to Set and Maintain Healthy Boundaries
- Know Your Limits. Identify what drains and energizes you and where you feel uncomfortable or resentful.
- Communicate Clearly. Use “I” statements. For example, “I need uninterrupted time between 8–10 a.m. to get this project done. I am available after that.” Avoid blaming or apologizing for your needs.
- Hold the Line. Expect people to test your boundaries. If someone pushes back, kindly but firmly restate your limit. Tell them. Tell them what you told them and then tell them again.
- Check In with Yourself. As you evolve, so will your boundaries. Periodically review them and adjust them accordingly.
Through coaching, training, and facilitation, we help individuals, groups, businesses, and organizations face loss, change, and conflict with greater resilience, clarity, and purpose.
